Great property!
5 of 5
Our party was thoroughly impressed with the property and the included amenities. The site featured many attractions, the basement has bedrooms, a full bathroom, and a great space for entertaining, including a pool table and bar. The house has a charcoal grill, a hot tub, and a fire pit. The property is in a beautiful and scenic area. Viroqua is nearby and is a charming town, and in the other direction is the nearby Mississippi River.
You can tell that the property owners/managers want their guests to feel welcome and have a good time. Everything was set-up to allow us to really relax and enjoy ourselves at Romance Valley Retreat.

Beautiful property and great house

We had a great time hiking, using the hot tub, and playing games in the sun room. There were plenty of paper products and the kitchen was very well stocked – even a coffee grinder! Plus a fire pit and pool table! Thanks!

This property is absolutely beautiful! We had a great weekend here. The house is very comfortable and accommodated our large group with plenty of space. We really enjoyed the campfires and relaxing in the hot tub. Took a drive down some of the back roads- they are so awesome! It was so nice to be able to bring the dogs. Everything you need and more as far as being stocked. We will definitely be returning.

Women’s Crafting Retreat
5 of 5
We rented Romance Valley for a women’s indigo dyeing retreat August 26-28. This space was great for our crafting and cooking activities. The kitchen is large and well-appointed, and the large sun room and living room were perfect to promote conversation, sharing and creation. The home was very clean and comfortable. The availability of the event space is what made this location work for us, since there was a large outdoor area for fabric dyeing. Joel & Jenny were a pleasure to work with, and were flexible with us in making our plans. This location is beautifully situated in the hills between Viroqua and LaCrosse. The vistas were lovely, especially during this Indian Summer weekend. I would definitely rent this beautiful property again!

40th Anniversary Celebration
5 of 5
We rented Romance Valley Retreat to celebrate our 40th anniversary during July. We had a total of 18 people with 7 kids of varying ages but most were under 5 years. RVR was the perfect place. We stayed a week and had a wonderful time. The house was so clean, decorated so nicely, but very kid friendly. The property was well maintained and gorgeous. There was plenty of space for 18 to be together, but lots of space to get away from the noise. We highly recommend taking the time to learn about their organic farm. Our grandkids were thrilled and said it was their most favorite thing they did during the week. I think all the above was great, but what makes a rental is the way the hosts treat their guests. This was topnotch and we will definitely be back. We booked the rental a year in advance. Joel and Jenny were very responsive to all our emails. They gave detailed information of what we could expect, and all was exactly as they said. Thank you, Joel & Jenny, for sharing such a beautiful place with my family. We will treasure the memories made during this special week.

Great for large groups who need separate spaces

Very large areas where groups can separate and still enjoy themselves. Huge outside areas with fire pit and great star gazing. Well supplied with all our needs and close enough to town to get those last minute items you forgot. Thanks for allowing us the pleasure of your house. Clean, well maintained, and Joel was great when we needed him. I would definitely recommend this to others.

Great place!

Has a variety of things to do for time away. Quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, games, hot tub, pool table shooting range, long walks in nature, lots of wide open space for large groups, yet smaller areas for private conversations. Beautiful location with lots of wildlife all around. We have just spent our second annual getaway there and after visiting numerous other places, we think we have found the “perfect place.”

Excellent place for a get away

Whenever you book something you are always a little leery of what you will get. This place was great! We were very happy with our choice. We had a larger group and were unsure if we would all like it. This place exceeded our expectations. The house is very nice, clean and had a large kitchen for entertaining. We enjoyed looking out and seeing deer , and bald eagles. Some of the kids went sledding down the hills and really enjoyed themselves. I would highly recommend it here.

Great House for Our Annual Turkey Palooza
5 of 5
Every year we rent a house for a week long celebration with our kids and grandkids. Everyone agreed that RVR was one of our best Turkey Palooza’s yet. Upon arriving one of our daughter commented that this house felt more like home than many of the others we have stayed at in the past. While decorated with some awesome antiques (I really want that large crock in the living room!) it was very kid friendly for our young grandchildren. The home did not look large as we drove up the drive, but that was deceiving – it was spacious and roomy and also had great property for the ‘Littles’ (ages 6 months to 4 years old) to explore with their parents. There were so many little things we appreciated that we have not found in houses we have rented in the past – lots of extra blankets, toilet paper and paper towels stocked for the entire week (not just the usual starter rolls), a stocked pantry, and an extra fridge in the garage just to name a few. As this annual gathering is a family reunion, most of our time is spent at the house and this was truly a house we could feel at home in, prepare large meals and play around outside. It was far enough away from towns to feel you could roam the country, but close enough to town to make runs to the store as needed. We definitely appreciated RVR for our special family time and oh, the giant metal turkey (12 to 15 feet tall) at the neighbor across the road was an extra laugh and memory to add to this year’s Turkey Palooza extravaganza.

A Nostalgic Stay
5 of 5
Our family has enjoyed this property for close to 30 years and it was fantastic to re-visit it now that it has become a vacation rental. It was nostalgic to see so much was the same as the last time we walked out the door but we LOVED the recent additions. The new deck & the hot tub were used daily. The new fire pit & handcrafted benches were awesome. And the 2 wooden bridges made crossing the creek so easy! And the pool table was a great addition.
We are thrilled that so many new families are able to appreciate and experience the home we cherished for so long. We look forward to returning and being able to continue to make new memories.

Thank you!!

This property is absolutely beautiful! We had the most amazing week staying here. The house is very comfortable and can accommodate large groups very well! The four seasons room was our favorite! Perfect place for morning coffee and watching for deer. The grounds are spectacular! From walking the trails, shooting at the range, the kids playing in the back yard, there seemed to be endless things to do. The shed worked perfect for our event. It was so nice having that onsite as it made setting up easy and if you forgot something we could just walk back to the house to get it! Thank you Jenny and Joel and we are already planning another trip back to Romance Valley Retreat!

Another awesome stay!
5 of 5
This was our second annual stay and it was just as awesome as the first! We’ve looked elsewhere, but there’s nothing within a 3 hour radius of the Twin Cities that can accommodate all 15 of us comfortably, and has the amenities. We love RVR for two very opposite reasons; the quiet solitude away from the world where our cell phones don’t work, and the fun times we have at the firing range. It’s a rare luxury to be able to have a couple kids in the hot tub while kids are playing baseball in the HUGE yard, while a couple people are at the firing range, while a couple people are playing cards at the picnic table in the gazebo, while a couple kids are at the creek while a couple kids are in the heated shed playing games. It’s an amazing place, and we’ll be back!

Most Secluded, Relaxing Vacation!

We had an amazing time at Romance Valley Retreat. The house is immaculate and provides ample space. We would recommend this to anyone looking for quiet seclusion with the beauty of the rolling hills and babbling brook (which houses their resident beaver). We stayed during one of the coldest weeks in Wisconsin, so the hot tub was a welcomed amenity. Would recommend this to anyone!

My family, 8 adults and 6 children, rented the retreat for our family’s Xmas gathering and could not be more impressed. The home was clean, well kept, and provided a ton of entertainment options. We played pool, darts, cards, enjoyed the trails, shot some clay pigeons at the shooting range, enjoyed views from the silo bar, and dips in the hot tub. What a bargain!

15 people comfortably!

This place is AWESOME!! We enjoyed the space, the firing range, the space for 15 of us to spread out, the handicapped ramp into the house that is, for the most part, on one level, I could go on and on! Joel and Jenny have thought of everything! There’s a spare fridge in the garage, the kitchen is well stocked, there’s extra supplies everywhere! Every time we thought we might need something, we were able to find it somewhere in the house! We had 6 adults and 9 kids and we weren’t cramped at all! There was plenty of room inside and out for some people to do this while others did that. The hot tub was enjoyed by all, we had great bonfires each night, people loved wandering the property…..the worst part of the whole trip was leaving this beautiful place to head home. We can’t wait to get back!

Escape to the most beautiful landscape Wisconsin has to offer.
5 of 5
If you need to refresh your batteries, and reconnect with the beautiful landscape of Western Wisconsin, I highly recommend this stay. I visited this property with a few buddies to explore trout streams in the area (highly saturated area), and unwind. The location of the property is ground zero for some of the best streams the state has to offer. The property is located in a very pristine valley, with very large rolling hills and bluffs, which makes you forget you’re still in Wisconsin. The home is loaded with amenities and has everything you need for a home away from home (cable, internet, washer/ dryer, new appliances, hot tub, pool table, etc.). The silo room was an awesome feature as you can look out over the property, and at night it makes for an excellent card playing room. The cox creek on the property is a small stream which surprisingly yielded fish (not big, but abundant).
Joel and Jenny go out of there way to make your stay very comfortable. I found the nice touch of having fresh milk and eggs pre-stocked in the fridge when you get there (presumably originating from their farm).
The only downside from the property is the lack of cell phone reception… but depending on how you look at it that could be a great thing. (There are landline phones and if you have an iPhone you can still iMessage with WiFi, so communication is still possible).
Overall I highly recommend this property. Exceptional value for what you get out of your stay. I look forward to booking this property again in the future.

Wonderful Experience!!!
5 of 5
We had 13 people from IL, IN, & IA (6 adults and 7 kids; 9 and under) meet here for a couple nights. We had so much fun! This was our first VRBO experience, and we were thrilled with how well it worked! We went sledding down the driveway with the kids and played hockey and baseball in the heated shop. We had a fire going most of the time in the living room and enjoyed sitting in the many spacious areas, enjoying each others company. We even used the hot tub one evening while it was -3 out, what an asset to have!! The kids loved playing on the heated tile floor in the sun room while meals were prepared in the over sized kitchen. The owners have thought of everything! They have plenty of coat hooks by the door and benches in the bedrooms so you can put your suitcase up. Extra towels are provided and plenty of essentials are available for use in the kitchen. Overall we had a great time, and we hope to come back!! Thanks again!

Great Property!! Fun Times!!
5 of 5
We had a great time at the property!! We ended up having 14 people in attendance and there was plenty of room for us all!! We had a blast w/ the hot tub, sledding down some hills, shooting some pool, and roaming around the property!! The photos accurately reflect the rental’s appearance, and the kitchen was stocked full of anything you would need for cooking!! Our group enjoyed being outdoors, even though it was cold outside!! We were able to go skiing nearby and also check out downtown La Crosse, which was only about 20-25min. away!! Joel was super helpful and even called to make sure everything was going well and if we needed anything!! I was also impressed that when we got there, the driveway was plowed even though it snowed a few inches and were in a winter weather advisory shortly before we came. So with that said, great customer service and great property!! I would recommend this property to anyone!! We were a group of guys and gals ages 22-35 and we loved it!! We look forward to booking another trip when there is no snow so that we can experience everything else the property has to offer!! Two thumbs up!! Thanks for everything!!

Just enjoyed a lovely 3 days at this beautiful property. Families from Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois all met her for our annual get together. We had a blast hiking the property, sledding, enjoying a snowy bonfire and hot tub, and just hanging out. The valley that this property is situated on is absolutely gorgeous. The property is spacious and accomodating. The house was exactly what we needed, plenty of place to play games, eat, sleep and relax. Very clean and cozy. If you want shopping, LaCrosse is just 30 minutes away. We hope to be back again very soon as I know it would be breathtaking in the summer and fall as well!

We just returned from a a wonderful family gathering over Thanksgiving. Nine of us fit beautifully into the house with more than enough room to spread out. We used the fire pit, played cards up in the silo room, and explored some of the property during our stay. Probably our favorite activity was the personal farm tour that Joel gave the family. He took time out of his busy schedule to give us a tour of his organic family farm. We would definately recommend this property and the wonderful owners!

Absolutely fantastic.
5 of 5
Describing Joel as accommodating would be a massive understatement. He made sure it was clear that anything we needed would be available for us, and that he was more than happy to help us with anything we would possibly need.
The house was gorgeous, cozy, and spacious. The yard was fantastic, and the hot tub was an absolute hit. The grill was used every day, usually multiple times, and we never ran out of supplies for anything. The location is pristine, and provided an easy outlet to food and entertainment. A simple 10 minute drive landed us in town, with everything we could need.
Overall, the stay was amazing. The only complaint we had was the weather- it got pretty hot, but this obviously has no reflection on the property itself. I would gladly rate our trip 6/5 if possible. My buddies and I will certainly be coming back up for another stay this summer!

Just returned from a terrific weekend at this property. Can’t say enough about the location and property as a whole. Seven friends and I have spent the last 6 years on a long weekend and always use VRBO to find a location. This property provided us with everything we needed and then some. Having 8 beds was wonderful as no one needed to sleep on a sofa or the floor. Joel went above and beyond as host by contacting the local cable company on Saturday morning to secure extra channels for us to view football games. We found the local communities very inviting and full of friendly people. The silo proved a unique place to play cards and enjoy some laughs. I would recommend this property to anyone.

We enjoyed the hot tub, walking the trails on the property and even the look out tower. We were outside so much that we didn’t even get in the basement for pool or darts. That will be on our list for next year, yes that’s right, we are all excited to come back again. I think this would be a great place to take my family and a couple of other families in the winter.
